This is one of our favourite places in Brighton, but it's also somewhere that we almost didn't discover. It's outside the main shopping/restaurant area of Brighton (the Lanes and the area near Churchill Square) and if you didn't know it was there you'd assume it was just another takeaway, but it's a real gem. Everything about Planet India has a family feel, from the recommendations on the menu to the travel photographs all over the walls.
The starters shouldn't be missed, whether you have the tangy bhel puri or the ketchoris (peas and coconut balls wrapped in a pastry and deep fried).
The vegan options are a mixed vegetable curry, Mumbai potato curry, sweet corn patras (very sweet), black chickpea (extremely hot) and probably some others that I've forgotten. The vegetarian options include korma and spinach and paneer. It's definitely worth ordering a side of their delicious cumin rice.
Everything feels authentic, right down to their drinks menu having Limca lemonade and Thums Up cola.
For the amount of food that you get and the for the quality of it, the prices are very good. The people that run it are very friendly. Don't be put off by the slightly shabby looking exterior and furnishings, or the bare feet, it's one of the best bits of Brighton.
